Trickle helps to create a trusted, open and collaborative work culture within your organisation offering your people optional anonymity so that everyone has the confidence to be authentic in their responses.

There may be rare instances where you may find yourself faced with a difficult Trickle conversation, or one that is difficult to resolve.

This article covers:

💫 Managing difficult Trickle conversations

💫 Completing a difficult-to-solve Trickle

💫 Tools to manage Trickles - Archive, Lock, Edit, Delete

💫 Tools to manage anonymity

Managing difficult Trickle conversations

As a Trickle Admin or Champion, we certainly don’t want you to fear those tougher conversations that will, from time-to-time, surface on Trickle. Click on the button below to view our guidance article with top tips on how to manage difficult conversations if they do arise.

Completing a difficult-to-solve Trickle

When you complete a Trickle you will be asked to provide a summary as to why you feel ready/able to close the Trickle and take it to a vote. If the Trickle does not have a “solution” at this point in time, it is good practice to:

Thank the person who raised the Trickle and those who contributed

Acknowledge that this issue is important

Summarise where you have got to alongside blockers/challenges

Provide next steps which may include:

  • Advising that you will post a MoodSense in 1/3/6 months time to gauge sentiment again on the issue raised - you can schedule this at the same time as you complete the Trickle

  • Letting your people know that you will post regular Shout About updates to keep them informed of any changes

  • Inviting your people to participate further in the conversation at a scheduled face-to-face forum/meeting

Tools to manage Trickles - Archive, Lock, Edit, Delete

We recommend that you complete Trickles to ensure that your people are given the opportunity to have a vote on the proposed outcome. If, for any reason, you need to manage a Trickle without taking it to a vote, you may consider using the following features:

To archive, lock, edit or delete a Trickle, open the Trickle on the activity feed and click on the 3 vertical dots on the post. You can watch the video below 👇 to see where to find this.

You will then be asked to provide a reason for taking this action. This will be published on the Trickle thread for everyone to see.

Archive a Trickle (Champions & Admins)

Archiving a Trickle removes it from the main activity feed, however people can still search for the post individually or filter their feed to show archived content. However, if a Trickle has been manually archived it will automatically lock and no more comments can be posted.

Please note that if a Trickle is not engaged with for 28 days, it is automatically archived. Automatically archived Trickles can be brought back into the activity feed when a new comment is posted.

Lock a Trickle (Champions & Admins)

This will prevent further discussion from taking place, however people can still find the post in their activity feed and review any discussion that's already taken place.

Edit a Trickle (Admins only)

This tool is intended for censoring abusive and/or confidential content. We advise you try to preserve as much of the original post as possible. Please note an edited Trickle can still be taken to a vote.

💡 You can also speak to our Customer Wellbeing Team if you would like to know more about our language censor function. This allows us to censor keywords if inappropriate or abusive language is being used on your platform.

Delete a Trickle (Admins only)

This will permanently erase the post and all of its comments. This action cannot be undone.

Tools to manage anonymity

Turn on the Code of Conduct feature (Admins only)

Admins can turn on the Anonymity Code of Conduct feature which means that when a user posts anonymously they must confirm the content that they are posting is appropriate and aligns with the values of the organisation. This pops up as a daily reminder to users using the anonymity function. It is customisable allowing you to add a link to your organisation's Code of Conduct.

To do this, go to TrickleApp>Org settings>anonymity>CodeofConduct

Temporary Anonymity Suspension (Admins only)

If an admin identifies a specific anonymous post or comment that violates the organisation’s community guidelines, they can temporarily suspend the users anonymity.

The user can continue using the app, posting and commenting, but not under an anonymous pseudonym.

The first time a user's anonymity is suspended, the "ban" lasts for a week. However, if the same user continues to violate the guidelines repeatedly, the duration of their ban will progressively increase.

A user will receive the below message in this instance:

Automatic Limits on Anonymous Activity

To prevent excessive anonymous posts and comments that may disrupt the activity feeds, we have implemented automatic limits. These limits ensure that everyone has a fair chance to engage while discouraging spamming behaviour. Here's how the limits work:

Limits on Anonymous Trickle Posts

  • Each user can make 1 anonymous post per week.

  • If you don't use your weekly post, it's saved for later. You can save up to 5 posts this way. So, if you haven't posted anonymously for 4 weeks, you could make 5 anonymous posts in the 5th week.

  • New users get a special start: they can make up to 5 anonymous posts right away.

  • We keep track of your posts with a counter, kind of like a savings account. Each week, you get 1 more post added to your "account", up to a maximum balance of 5.

  • If you use up all your saved posts, you'll have to wait until the next week to post anonymously again.

Limits on Anonymous Trickle Comments

  • Each user can make 10 anonymous comments per day.

  • If you don't use all your daily comments, they're saved for later. You can save up to 25 anonymous comments this way. So, if you haven't commented anonymously for a few days you'll be able to make up to 25 anonymous comments before hitting the limit.

  • New users get a special start: they can make up to 25 anonymous comments right away.

  • We keep track of your comments with a counter, kind of like a savings account. You will be awarded 10 new comments per day, individually replenished over the course of the day, up to a maximum balance of 25.

  • If you use up all your saved comments, you'll have to wait a bit for your account to refill before you can comment anonymously again.

If you'd like to customise how many anonymous Trickles or Comments people have access to in your organisation please reach out to your Customer Wellbeing Manager.

Customising or Switching Off Anonymity

It is also possible to customise your optional anonymity settings depending on whether you are posting to a department, location or whole organisation.

You can also switch off the Trickle anonymity feature across the platform. This will prevent ALL users posting anonymously within your organisation.

If these are options you would like to consider, speak to your Customer Wellbeing Manager for more information.

If you require any further advice or support regarding managing difficult Trickles, you can contact the Trickle Customer Wellbeing Team by using the in-app Help Centre button - we will be happy to help! ✨
